‘7 WOMEN, 4 UKULELES AND 1 GREAT CAUSE' AT VERMONT ARTS EXCHANGE

NORTH BENNINGTON, VT — Join local musicians and Vermont Arts Exchange (VAE) for "7 Women, 4 Ukuleles and 1 Great Cause," a special concert to benefit VAE friend Carol Adinolfi, in support of her journey to overcome non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. The concert begins at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 26, at VAE's Sage Street Mill.

The seven women are singer-songwriter Bernice Lewis and musician Bernie McMahon of The Ladies Auxiliary Ukulele Orchestra; singer-songwriters Dana Wolfson and Faith Griffiths; and Riley Skinner, Brownyn Maloney and Katie Rudman of the all-female alternative folk band Fragile Lung.

A writer, teacher and whole foods chef, Adinolfi was an unlikely candidate for non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, with which she was diagnosed in December 2009. As she explains on her website, carolsbigadventure.com, "NHL is a complex and incurable cancer of the immune system. The ‘good' thing about it is also what's bad about it: NHL is an indolent, or slow-growing, cancer, and that means, first of all, that if you have a sufficiently slow-growing form (or grade) of it, there is a possibility of living for a long time with the disease, and of not being terribly bothered by it. In fact, one common medical option is known as ‘Watch and Wait.'" However, her lymphoma is classified as Stage 3, "which is the highest you can go on the indolent side of the spectrum. Just next door is what is called "transformed" lymphoma—officially aggressive."

Adinolfi now approaches her fourth chemotherapy treatment with unblinking honesty and a holistic mindset. "True healing is a much more subtle and complex process," she writes. "It requires strong discipline, commitment, attention, research, and a robust desire to be alive, with all that means, both difficult and wonderful." Her friends, wishing to support Adinolfi in her "big adventure" in healing, have donated their time, talents and venue for this benefit fundraiser.

Tickets are $18 for adults, $10 for students with ID, with all proceeds going to support Adinolfi. Tickets are available online at carolsbigadventure.com, by calling Brown Paper Tickets at 800-838-3006 or at the door on the night of show. Delicious homemade goodies and beverages will be served on site.

The Blooming Chefs Cookbook!

Introducing the new Blooming Chefs Cookbook, with kid friendly recipes for the whole family to enjoy!

Inside are recipes from culinary workshops, organic garden harvest classes and our farm-to-school program at Bennington Elementary School in Bennington, Vermont.

The purchase of this cookbook ($7.95 or your *donation) will further the work of Blooming Chefs. *Please consider a donation of $10 or more and become a friend of blooming chefs and have your name listed on our website!

The recipes in this book are our way of sharing with you the great things going on with environmental education, nutrition, and culinary training in the Blooming Chefs program. In our after school cooking classes, students receive a culinary school level education. You will see a sampling of the rich array of recipes we work on. In the course of a semester, students prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner entrees, as well as healthy snacks and desserts. We focus on whole foods, meaning unprocessed and unrefined. For example, you will see that our pancake & waffle recipes feature whole wheat flour, buckwheat, flour and cornmeal. Through our summer organic gardening program and our 07-08 program, The Bennington Elementary Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Cart, (a Vermont Department of Education Funded Farm-to-School Program) we have continued to turn kids on to a variety of healthy fruit and vegetable based treats.

We hope you enjoy these sumptuous recipes. They are tried and true, and most of them feature a special format we've developed to make them super kid-friendly!

Stay tuned for our newest publication, Everything in Place: Learning to Cook With Kids
